Croissant and Nilly are the Sam and Diane of their local cafe in Le Déssert, a region of the world that is run by rich, bourgeois Pastries. Nilly is a struggling actor and Croissant, an undiscovered painter. They’re bohemians, dreaming of fame and riches, while scrubbing the floors. So maybe they’re more like Mimi and Roger. To that point, as they have their first brush with fame, things go stale.

Driven by her unrequited love, Nilly impersonates high-powered art gallerist Vanilla Macaron and lands Croissant the biggest break of his life. But when she returns to life as a Junk Food, she learns that she’s not welcome in his new circles.

Faced with the thought of losing Croissant to the bourgeoisie, she decides to invent a new character, Pistachio Macaron, to get the treatment only offered to the rich and terrible. And though she came for Croissant, she stays for the power.

Throughout season one, Croissant loses himself to the underground, liberal art scene that wants to overthrow the Pastryarchy. Meanwhile, Nilly, now fully ingrained in the upper-Crust, must decide whether to kill the old version of herself as she risks being caught for who she really is.

All the while, the two grow ever further from each other, to the fringes of the political spectrum, faced with a monolith of a cultural revolution that will change Le Déssert forever. With society on the razor’s edge of a bagel slicer guillotine, Croissant and Nilly are finally center stage. But at what cost?
